Parliament Adjourned Over FDI in Retail

New Delhi, Nov 28 (IANS): Both houses of parliament were Monday adjourned till noon over the government's decision to allow 51 percent foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail.

Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the Lok Sabha till noon after opposition members protested the move.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Murli Manohar Joshi had moved an adjournment motion for suspension of Question Hour in the Lok Sabha Monday.

The Rajya Sabha was also adjourned till noon on the same issue.

BJP believes the move would adversely affect the services and manufacturing sectors of the Indian economy. The party also thinks FDI in retail would result in loss of jobs in the name of removing middlemen.
