Bantwal, Oct 4: In a joint operation, the Bantwal Revenue Department and the Mining Department conducted a raid on illegal sand mining activities in the Nethravathi River near Tumbe and Maripalla areas, seizing a total of 20 boats.
The operation was carried out under the orders of the Dakshina Kannada district commissioner, with support from the Bantwal Revenue Department and the Bantwal rural police station. The seized boats were relocated to Adyar in Mangaluru.
No sand was found on any of the seized boats, and the laborers involved in the illegal sand mining fled during the raid.
The team involved in the operation included Mining Department deputy director Krishnaveni, senior geologist Girish Mohan, geologist Mahadeshwara, tahsildar Archana Bhat, Mangaluru Revenue Department’s Prashanth Patil, Bantwal revenue inspector Janardhan, village accountants, and the Bantwal rural police team.
