Parliament Adjourned Over FDI in Retail

New Delhi, Nov 29 (IANS): Both houses of parliament were again adjourned Tuesday following protests by the opposition over the government's move to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail and ease norms in single-brand retail.

As the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha convened at 11 a.m., the members of opposition parties gathered near the presiding officers' podiums demanding rollback of the FDI decision.

As efforts to calm down opposition members failed, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and Rajya Sabha Chairperson Hamid Ansari adjourned the house till noon.

Earlier, an all part meeting called by the government to discuss FDI ended inconclusively as opposition parties remain adamant that the government first rollback its decision on FDI.
