Mangaluru: AIMIT organises seminar, workshop on business entrepreneurship

Mangaluru, Oct 10: The IT department of AIMIT, St Aloysius (Deemed to be a University), in collaboration with the Techtern Pvt Ltd, Kannur, with support from the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), government of India, conducted a seminar and workshop on Business Entrepreneurship (Emanating Entrepreneurship Ideology Conclave, EEIC 2K24) on October 8 for IT students. The resource persons were Praveen Kumar Kalbhavi, managing director and CEO of Novigo Solutions; Devaraj K, IEDS, joint director, Br MSME DFO, ministry of MSME, government of India, Mangaluru; and Dr Raji Sukumar A, dean of innovation, entrepreneurship, and R&D, Sree Narayana college, Payyanur.

The inaugural programme began with a prayer song. The event was marked by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by all the dignitaries. Dr Hemalatha N, dean of IT, AIMIT welcomed the gathering. Shivam, student coordinator introduced the resource person, Praveen Kumar Kalbhavi. Kalbhavi discussed the potential for entrepreneurship in the growing Indian economy.

Dr (Fr) Kiran Cotha SJ, director, AIMIT encouraged students to become entrepreneurs, emphasizing courage, creativity, resilience, and passion, and urged them to seek opportunities rather than focusing on obstacles. Fr Kiran then presented a memento to Praveen as a token of gratitude. The vote of thanks was delivered by Nousheeda BS, faculty coordinator, and the programme concluded with the college anthem.

The seminar was divided into two sessions. The first session, delivered by Praveen Kumar Kalbhavi, focused on his journey in entrepreneurship. He spoke about start-up essentials, opportunities, and key factors such as strategic thinking and problem-solving. He also covered topics like funding, scaling up a business after establishing a strong foundation, and emerging technology trends.

The second session was conducted by Devaraj K, IEDS, joint director, Br MSME DFO, Ministry of MSME, government of India, Mangaluru. He discussed various MSME schemes, their categorization, and the process for availing of these schemes, highlighting their features and benefits for start-ups.

The workshop was held in the afternoon by Dr Raji Sukumar. The workshop began with a memory activity, followed by group formation for a business development exercise. Each group brainstormed unique business ideas, promoting innovation, creative thinking, and problem-solving. Participants developed business models collaboratively, enhancing their skills. The session concluded after these engaging activities.
