Udupi, Oct 14: The Election Commission has announced by-election for local bodies in Dakshina Kannada, set for October 21, with vote counting scheduled for October 24. In a move to ensure peaceful voting and maintain law and order, a ban on the sale of alcohol has been implemented.

According to the Karnataka Excise Act, 1967, and the Representation of the People Act, 1951, all liquor shops, depots, distilleries, star hotels, and bars in the district will be required to remain closed from 4 pm on October 19 to 4 pm on October 21.

Deputy Commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari, who also serves as the district magistrate, has issued this directive to facilitate a smooth and fair electoral process.
