Mangaluru: FMHMC hosts Interzone men & single zone basketball tournament

Mangaluru, Oct 17: Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College (FMHMC) successfully hosted the RGUHS Interzone men's and single zone women's basketball tournament cum selection trials on October 15 and 16. The event saw participation from various medical colleges under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), with teams competing in high-spirited matches.

Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, the designated director FMCI and administrator of Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The principal, Dr ESJ Prabhu Kiran, welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest, presenting him with a floral bouquet.

In his address, Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo spoke about the rich history of the college as it celebrates its Ruby Jubilee and inspired the players with his words on sportsmanship. He emphasized the importance of '3 Cs' – Cooperation, Collaboration and Coordination – in achieving success. He encouraged the participants to fight hard, stating that while not everyone may win, the real victory lies in giving their best effort. He further highlighted those sports aims to foster fitness and health, revealing the true strength of character in competition. The inauguration officially began with the chief guest shooting the ball into the basket, symbolizing the start of the tournament.

Third place : SS Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Davanagere
Fourth place : Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College, Bangalore

Single Zone basketball

Winner : Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore
Runners up : Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences, Mandya
Third place : BGS Global Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore
Fourth place : Oxford Medical College, Bangalore

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) Inter Zone men basketball

Valedictory

Valedictory of the tournament and prize distribution was held on October 16. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, Dr ESJ Prabhu Kiran, principal, Dr Vilma M D’Souza, vice principal, Chandrakant, physical education director, Navodaya Medical College, Raichur observer for the tournament, along with RGUHS selection committee members Shantharaju, physical education director from Aditha Institutions, Bangalore and Manjunath, physical education director from East West College of Pharmacy, Bangalore, Chennakeshava, physical education director and RGUHS convener of the tournament Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College and sports committee of the college were present on this occasion.

Dr Dheeraj I Fernandes, in charge of event, expressed the words of gratitude.
