Kundapur, Oct 17:  A cow was killed in a tragic accident on National Highway 66 near Trasi around 7:30 pm on Thursday, October 17, after straying onto the road and colliding with a rental car.

The vehicle, returning to Udupi from Maravanthe Beach, sustained significant damage in the crash.

Local residents are raising concerns about safety, citing a lack of streetlights between Trasi and Mullikatte and overgrown grass in the median that allows livestock to wander onto the highway.

They are demanding urgent action to prevent further accidents.

A case has been registered at the Gangolli police station.

This is in response to Mr. Henry Misquith comments on MPs and MLAs not providing street lights, etc. Most of the days the lights on the main road in Bannanje are not functional! Who is to take the blame? Public Amenities and Public Utilities come under the State governments' responsibility and their various Ministries to implement them. State government give 50% of all taxes collected from its state citizens and visitors to the Central government or to the CENTER. The local Municipality are the Town Planners backed by MESCOM for Electrical and Electricity issues and the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) for all other Amenities for the Public like good roads, efficient and good road maintenance, good pavements, good drainage, maintenance of drains, bridges, public markets, public schools, and public hospital. Who looks after their efficiency? Who is in charge to get all the above agencies doing their jobs efficiently is the question. The MP or the MLA do not walk the streets or the area they are elected from to see such and other issues. People love to complain and it ends there with news in the local media. No action whatsoever thereafter. The Law and Legislation do not play an active or responsible role in public issues.
