Catholic Sabha, residents urge bridge construction in Pavoor Uliya, praise ban on sand mining

Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 19: The Catholic Sabha has made an urgent appeal to Speaker U T Khader for the construction of a vital bridge in Pavouru Uliya. The organisation also commended the Speaker for successfully banning illegal sand mining in the area.

Pavouru Uliya, situated on an island in the Netravathi River, is home to 58 families and a Christian church. Residents rely heavily on a government-provided boat to access markets and transport pregnant women and patients to hospitals, facing significant challenges, especially at night.

In their appeal, the Catholic Sabha urged the Speaker to address the pressing needs of the island’s underprivileged residents by constructing a bridge. In response, Speaker Khader assured the community that he would prioritise their concerns and swiftly work on the bridge’s construction.

Key figures at the event included Alvin D'Souza, president of the Catholic Sabha Mangaluru region, former president Paul Rolphy D'Costa, vice-president Steven Rodrigues, and other prominent leaders.
