Udupi, Oct 25: Annual sports meet of St Mary’s English medium school, Kannarpady, was held at the school ground on October 25.
Dr Deepak Ram Bairy, deputy director of physical education department, KMC Manipal, inaugurated the annual sports meet by releasing the balloons high into the sky. He also received the torch to officially declare the sports meet open.
Dr Deepak Ram Bairy, in his inaugural address, said, “For many years, we have gathered here and cherished this day. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. While the outcome is uncertain, the more you prepare, the less you will struggle. If you have trained well, today will not be a difficult day. Students should find a balance between academics and sports. The time when a child excelled in only one area is gone; now, students succeed in both sports and academics. It is important for students to recognize and respect the sacrifices made by their teachers and parents, as growth and development must go hand in hand.”
Fr Charles Menezes, the correspondent, addressed the gathering, saying, “The effort you have put into practice will lead to success today. Everyone will participate, regardless of winning or losing.” He extended his best wishes for a successful annual sports meet.
The school’s sports representatives, who had participated in AICS-level competitions, carried the torch around the ground, symbolizing the spirit of the event. The sports leader, Kaushal, administered the oath to the participants.
The ceremony commenced with a prayer by the school choir, followed by an impressive march-past and a mass drill performed by the students.
Gerald Pinto, physical education instructor, welcomed the gathering. Jacqueline Sushma, faculty delivered the vote of thanks. Faculties, Eunice Anchan and Usha Hegde mastered the ceremony.
Principal Fr Vijay Joyson D’Souza, vice principal Rita Quadros, vice president of the parish pastoral committee Maxim D’Souza, assistant parish priest Fr Leo Praveen, faculty member, students, and parents, were present on the occasion.
