Udupi, Oct 26: The Udupi City Municipality has suspended the licenses of two pubs in Manipal for violating operational norms. The establishments affected are Dee-Tee (Bhavani) Lodge & Restaurant and 7th Heaven (Ecstasy) Bar & Restaurant.

Concerns were raised by the Manipal Police regarding security issues at both the locations. Allegations include the failure to implement necessary precautions during late-night operations, leading to repeated criminal incidents within these establishments.

In response to these concerns, the Superintendent of Police submitted a formal request to district authorities to revoke the licenses, citing the need to maintain law and order.

The Manipal Police reported a total of five cases against Dee-Tee (Bhavani) Lodge & Restaurant. Additionally, four cases had been registered against 7th Heaven Bar & Restaurant in 2024, including one involving a DJ party and another case reported in Mumbai. The Excise Department has also recorded one complaint regarding 7th Heaven.

Following these serious concerns, the Udupi Municipality has officially revoked the business licenses of both the establishments.

Someone needs define what is a PUB? The term Pub has become a punching bag without understanding about it. As per exercise licence, there is nothing called a Pub! licence . . The Licence is usually CL-9 ( if it stand alone) or CL-7 (If part of a Hotel), a so called PUB or Fine Dine or a Family restaurant with Bar all have same licence. Only there is a difference in the interiors , kind of music and type of crowd . Most so called pubs have lot of middle age and family crowd, they go there to enjoy that kind of ambience, kind of food and that kind of music . . .genralizing any outlet with English music, continental food and dim lights as shady place and problem to society is wrong. Violation of rules like permitting dancing or closing time is wrong and they need to be punished, but generalizing is very very wrong. This targeting of places where there is English music and modern decor has been started by the media for TRP . . To the extent the term'PUB' has become synonymous with Evil. In European countries most liquor outlet is called a Pub

Manipal & Udupi is flooded with Bars, Pubs, Wine shops & Late night life and their MAIN TARGET IS YOUNGSTERS!!! College students, Engineering & Medical Students, business community, rich and medium income people, youngsters and party's..... Even various type of drugs is available in the vicinity of these outlets and sold by criminal background people. It's a temptation for these young minds to try these drugs often and then slowly they addict!!! Police & Municipal authorities must take STRICT ACTION on these outlets SPECIALLY THE CLOSING HOURS. GANG fights, physical assaults and drunken accidents is also happening around these late hours.

Serves them right. The students are a nuisance. Night traffic around that area is bad and they cause trouble. The students get drunk and cause a lot of trouble.

“Pubs are famous not for legal but for illegal activities, and with a name like 7th Heaven, heaven seems very close after two drinks. These pubs are ruining our society and the young generation. Police might suspend the license for a week, but then it's the same old story at night with 7th Heaven.”
