Mangaluru: Memorial service, endowment lecture held at St Aloysius College

Mangaluru, Oct 29: Xavier Educational Trust, Hampankatta, organized a memorial service and endowment lecture under the ‘Late Rose and Sebastian Vas Memorial Endowment Fund’ at Sahodaya Hall, St Aloysius College. The event commenced with Holy Mass at 10:30 am, celebrated by Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, rector of St Aloysius College.

Dr Charles Lobo, trustee and convener of the programme, welcomed the gathering, followed by the annual report presented by the working secretary of the trust, Ian Lobo. Chief guest and speaker, Pradeep D'Souza, D K skill development officer, Government of Karnataka, delivered the endowment lecture on "Relevance of Skill Development in Today’s Education System and Its Benefits." He emphasized the importance of incorporating skill development courses in the education system, outlined various government schemes, and encouraged the public to utilize these resources.

Dignitaries present on the dais included J J V Fernandes, chairman; F M Lobo, secretary; Ligoury Fernandes, treasurer; Brian Vas, son of late Rose and Sebastian Vas and proprietor of Vas Bakery; Gerard Rego; and Sudhir Raj B Kotian, principal of Xavier Industrial Training Centre.

The trust honored Dr Edmund Frank and distinguished alumni for their outstanding achievements. J J V Fernandes, in his presidential address, highlighted the trust's accomplishments over the past 40 years. Ronald Fernandes extended the vote of thanks, and Herald Fernandes skillfully compered the event, which saw the participation of several notable personalities from Mangaluru.
