Mumbai, Dec 7 (IANS): A benchmark index for Indian equities Wednesday rose in early trade and was ruling over 160 points within minutes of opening bell.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 16,830.04 points, was ruling at 16,967.3 points, minutes into trade, 161.97 points or 0.96 percent up from its previous close at 16,805.33 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also was trading higher at 5,089.2 points, up 0.99 percent or 50.05 points from its previous close.
Broader markets also rose with the BSE 500 index ruling 0.9 percent up. The BSE midcap index moved up 0.62 percent while the BSE small cap index was trading 0.66 percent higher.
