Udupi, Oct 31: The Karnataka government, under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is firmly committed to the "Pancha Guarantee" schemes, which will not be discontinued under any circumstances, asserted Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Minister for Women and Child Development and Udupi District In-charge.
Speaking to reporters at her office on Thursday, she emphasised that the Shakti Scheme has significantly benefited millions of women, stating that any calls to discontinue it are impractical. "Since its launch, the transport corporations have improved their reputation and financial performance, making the Shakti Scheme a lifeline for women," she said.
The Shakti Scheme was inspired by D K Shivakumar’s leadership, especially after many women voiced concerns over rising prices. To address these issues, Shivakumar introduced the "Na Nayaki" programme, and the Congress party committed to the "Pancha Guarantee" schemes before the election.
Hebbalkar clarified that the Shakti Scheme is integral to these promises and reaffirmed that speculation regarding its discontinuation is baseless.
Regarding the upcoming by-elections, Hebbalkar expressed confidence in the Congress candidates' victory, attributing it to the widespread reach and success of the "Pancha Guarantee" schemes. She emphasised the government's dedication to public welfare under CM Siddaramaiah's leadership, stating, "I am confident that people will continue supporting us."
On the issue of land notices issued to farmers for Waqf board allocations, Hebbalkar responded that CM Siddaramaiah has assured that no farmer's land would be taken away. "The government will remain unbiased and act fairly across communities," she said, noting that CM Siddaramaiah plans to withdraw the issued notices to farmers.
Hebbalkar also mentioned that CM Siddaramaiah intends to address the caste census by writing to the appropriate commission, with discussions on this topic expected soon.
