Udupi: Mahesh Shenoy gets Rajyotsava Award for pioneering Miyawaki Forest initiative

Udupi, Oct 31: The Udupi District Administrator has announced the selection of various achievers for the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award 2024, honouring 50 individuals and organisations across different fields. The official confirmation will take place on Friday, November 1.

K Mahesh Shenoy, a dedicated social worker, is being recognised for introducing the Miyawaki forest concept to Udupi six years ago. His first project was named in memory of his grandfather, and since then, 16 similar projects have been initiated, resulting in the planting of over 1,000 saplings.

For the past year, Shenoy has offered free online training on developing Miyawaki forests, engaging more than 2,500 participants, several of whom have implemented their own projects.

In addition to his environmental efforts, Shenoy has been actively involved in various social initiatives, including raising awareness about the use of ink pens and reducing plastic waste in schools. He has also served as the correspondent for the SVS Group of Educational Institutions in Katpadi.

The award ceremony will be presided over by Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, with local elected representatives and officials from the district administration in attendance.
