Udupi, Nov 2: A housemaid allegedly made off with Rs 7.5 lac in cash and a diamond necklace valued at Rs 3 lac, deceiving her employer by claiming an impending IT raid at her residence under the jurisdiction of Manipal police station.
Juliet, a resident of Perampalli Road in Shivalli village, had employed Sunita as a housemaid for the past four months. Juliet confided in Sunita about her marital issues, and Sunita advised her to consider divorce. Distressed, Juliet decided to leave home and, on October 10, handed her mother some clothes, gold jewellery, and Rs 1 lac in cash from the Rs 10 lac kept in her husband’s locker.

On October 29, around 10:30 am, while Juliet was at home, Sunita arrived with a man named Stany, claiming that IT officials were at the house for a raid. Sunita asked Juliet to open the locker, from which she took Rs 9 lac in cash and a diamond necklace worth Rs 3 lac. She placed Rs 1.5 lac in Juliet’s bag and kept Rs 7.5 lac and the necklace in her own bag, assuring Juliet she would return them after the supposed raid.
Later, Juliet realized she had been deceived by her maid. She subsequently filed a complaint against Sunita and Stany at the Manipal police station.
