Mangaluru, Nov 2: Abhiram Satpathy, a 67-year-old native of Odisha, is on a remarkable journey to promote physical fitness and highlight the dangers of tobacco. Carrying a bag, a pole, water, and essentials like a blanket and bed sheet, he has walked 10,000 km since starting his trek in May 2023.

Abhiram’s journey began in Darlaga village, taking him through Bhutan and Nepal before returning to India via the Chinese border. He has visited various regions, including the Wagah border, Jammu and Kashmir, and Central India, before reaching South India. After entering Karnataka from Goa on October 10, he aims to complete his journey back in Odisha after covering an additional 3,000 km, with a target completion date in March 2025.

Speaking about his mission, Abhiram stated, “The body, a gift from God, should not be abused. We must engage in good deeds to improve society. Unhealthy lifestyles, including alcohol and smoking, must be abandoned. Daily walking is essential—this is the motto of my journey.” He walks approximately 20 km every day to raise awareness about these issues.

A retired employee from the energy department, Abhiram has a son who is an engineer and two married daughters. Since retiring, he has dedicated his time to social activities.
