Bengaluru, Nov 3: Reports indicate that noted Sandalwood director Guruprasad has died by suicide.
On Sunday, November 3, 52-year-old Guruprasad, director of the film Mata, was reportedly found deceased. Further information is awaited to determine the exact time of the incident. Residents in the area informed the police after noticing a foul odor coming from his apartment.
According to reports, he was facing harassment from creditors, which allegedly led him to take his life by hanging in his apartment in Madanayakanahalli, Bengaluru North taluk, where he had been residing for the past eight months. Guruprasad had recently remarried.
Known for directing films such as Mata, Eddelu Manjunatha, Director’s Special, Eradane Sala, and Ranganayaka, Guruprasad had also acted in several movies. His latest project, Adema, was currently under production.
Recently, Guruprasad faced allegations related to unpaid purchases. Lakshmikant, the owner of Total Kannada bookstore in Jayanagar, filed a complaint against him, claiming he had failed to pay for books and CDs bought in 2019 related to Kannada literature and cinema. Guruprasad had reportedly requested a discount on 100 books for his students, purchasing five sets of 75 books each, totaling Rs 65,000. The complaint stated that he did not settle the payment and had also changed his residential address, avoiding communication.
