Mangaluru, Nov 6: Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH) marked a milestone achievement with the Joint Commission International (JCI) PRIME (Preventing Risks of Infections and Medication Errors in IV Therapy) Certification Program. The certification ceremony, held at the Decennial Memorial Hall, showcased FMMCH's commitment to global healthcare standards. Organized by the Hospital Infection Control (HIC) Department in partnership with BD India Pvt Ltd, the event celebrated FMMCH’s dedication to infection control and medication safety.
The program commenced with a prayer led by Rita and her team. Dr Thomas S K, hospital infection control officer, escorted the dignitaries to the dais, including director Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho; chief guest Rohit Abrol, senior manager, key accounts at BD India Pvt Ltd; and administrators Fr Ajith Menezes, Fr George Jeevan Sequeira, Fr Nelson D Pias, chief nursing officer Sister Nancy Priya, medical superintendent Dr Uday Kumar, and Dr B Rekha, professor in the Department of Microbiology and chair of the Hospital Infection Control Committee.
Renita Norhona, HIC nurse, extended a warm welcome to all present. Addressing the gathering, Abrol praised the six-month journey of JCI Leads and Champions, who raised compliance from 44% to 94%. He commended Dr Thomas and Dr Rekha for their leadership and expressed optimism for further improvements in IV therapy care.
Dr Thomas then provided an overview of the PRIME program’s impact at FMMCH, highlighting its focus on infection risk reduction and medication error prevention through monthly audits, webinars, and conferences. The certification, awarded on August 23 in Delhi, recognizes FMMCH as one of only 16 hospitals in India to earn this distinction. Dr Vijay Sundarsingh, alongside Fr George Jeevan Sequiera, accepted the award on behalf of FMMCH.
Deena Andrade later acknowledged the contributions of the JCI’s 11 Leads and 46 Champions, as dignitaries presented mementos and certificates to BD India representatives, including Dr Chandan Saxena, Dr Shivansh Pahuja, Ganesh Gedam, and Gururaj Nayak. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho praised the dedication of senior nurses and the HIC team, and appreciated the collaboration with BD India in elevating patient care standards.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Agnes Roche, ICU in-charge and JCI Champion, who expressed gratitude to the BD India resource team and Jessica L Jordan, whose midnight online sessions from the US guided FMMCH through the certification process. Hosted by Harshita N, HIC executive, and Megha Kulal, HICN, the event was a proud testament to FMMCH's commitment to healthcare excellence.
