Udupi, Dec 9: A massive protest was held at Mahalingeshwar temple, Kalattoor, near here on Thursday December 8 , opposing the second phase of land acquisition of 700 acres in Kalattoor village, that lies in the vicinity of union government promoted by Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited (ISPRL) project site in Padoor village, here.

Over 4,000 villages gathered at Mahalingeshwar temple, Kalattor, as they feared the second phase of land acquisition would take away their ancestral farmlands, since first phase of project is coming up in 450 acres for setting up underground crude oil storage, meant for national reserve during emergency.

Belapu gram panchayat president Deviprasad Shetty urged the villagers not to be lured by vested interests and join in united struggle against second phase of land acquisition by ISPRL.  The struggle should not go the ineffective way as against Nagarjuna Power in the past, urged Deviprasad Shetty.

The former state minister Vasant Salian urged the villagers to join in the struggle cutting down party politics.

ZP member Arun Shetty Padoor, Kutyar gram panchayat president Nityanand Shetty, Majoor gram panchayat president Ganesh Shetty, struggle Committee president Shivaram Shetty Payyar, Lawrence Fernandes, Ranganat Bhat, Kutyar Navin Shetty, Kutyar Prasad Shetty and others were present on  occasion.
