Mangaluru, Nov 11: The Annual Sports Meet of St Ann's High School, Bolar, 2024-25 took place on November7 at the police grounds. The event aimed to foster teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship among students.
The day began with an impressive inaugural ceremony led by the school band with the guard of honour to welcome the president Sr Maria Smitha AC. The joint secretary of St Anns, institutions, chief guest Sowbagya Lakshmi, senior content developer at Udayavani Digital, the headmistress Sr Ruby D’Souza AC, escorted by the physical education directress Geetha.
There was an air of excitement as students, staff and PTA members gathered to witness the days sporting events. The programme began with a prayer song led by the school choir invoking Lord Almighty's blessings. Teacher Sarah welcomed and introduced the chief guest.
This was followed by the march past, a highly competitive event where every team vying for the first place. It was judged by Wilma physical education directress St Anns P U College, Karunakar physical education director, Carmel CBSE school and Zita, teacher St Ann's Higher Primary School. The school flag was hoisted by the chief guest symbolising the spirit of sportsmanship.
The ceremonial torch was carried by the athletes Parshuram, Shreyas Chirashree and Keerthi. Jitisha the school sports minister administered the oath. The sports meet was then declared open with the release of a pair of pigeons by the chief guest and headmistress.
The chief guest Sowbagya Lakshmi our own Annette delivered an impactful speech emphasizing the role of sports and games in a students life. She urged the students to spend quality time in sports from the school level itself to keep themselves physically fit and reach greater heights.
Teacher Lavina Lobo compered the programme and Sr Suma AC rendered the vote of thanks. The athletes exhibited great sportsmanship and showcased their abilities in events like races, jumps and throws.
Ida D’Souza, PTA vice president was the chief guest of the closing function of the Annual Sports Meet. She distributed the prizes to the winners of the various sports events. The chief guest congratulated the students for their excellent performance and conveyed the importance of sports in one's life, participation in sports is very much important as it helps in maintaining balanced health and fitness.
The school flag was lowered with due respect and then handed over to the headmistress for the next Annual Sports Meet. Teacher Veena Lobo compered the programme and teacher Ancita D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.
