Udupi: Lords International School celebrates first annual sports day

Udupi, Nov 13: Lords International School celebrated its first annual sports day on Tuesday, November 12 amidst a lot of fun and frolic, fostering in its students a sense of companionship and unity.

The proceedings of this auspicious day commenced with the arrival of the president Bhuvanendra Kidiyoor along with the chief guest Ashwin Sanil International Sportsman, accompanied by the principal Myrtle L F Lewis and vice-principal Roopa Ashok Shetty. The esteemed dignitaries were escorted to the dais with great honour and reverence by the school band. Flags of different colours were fluttering all around the grounds and all the parents and spectators were seated to cheer and encourage their children.

A melodious prayer song was sung by the school choir invoking the blessings of the Almighty. The principal welcomed the renowned dignitaries, teaching and non-teaching staff, parents and students with heartfelt joy and gratitude.

The distinguished guests were presented a floral welcome. The march past showcased synchronisation and teamwork. The chief guest received the guard of honour. The students marched with pride exemplifying discipline and collective pride. The school flag was hoisted by the president.

The enthralling display of butterfly dance by the talented students of grades I – IV marked the opening of the sports day extravaganza that mesmerised the spectators. The athletic torch, symbolising the spirit of sportsmanship, was proudly carried around the grounds by the students. Sanika of grade V administered the oath on behalf of the students. Pigeons were let into the air by the dignitaries declaring the sports meet open.

The chief guest, Ashwin Sanil, in his address to the gathering urged the children to participate in all games. He emphasised that in sports it is not always necessary to win. Even losing gives us a lot of experience. He said that parents should encourage their children to take part in sports for a healthy body and a healthy mind. He also suggested that students could take up sports in future as their career.

In his presidential address, the president Bhuvanendra Kidiyoor congratulated the principal and the entire team for organising sports day in such a systematic manner. He stated that if children are given encouragement, they will definitely move ahead in life.

As a token of love and gratitude, a memento was presented to the chief guest. Shivprasad proposed the vote of thanks while Florina and Usha were the commentators.

After the inaugural programme, the spotlight shifted to electrifying track and field events, captivating spectators with intense competition across diverse categories. A number of events were conducted in which the students enthusiastically took part. Extending the excitement, the teachers, parents and students participated in tug of war.

The valedictory programme began by escorting national-level sportswoman Sandra Ancilla D’Souza Mathias, along with the principal and vice-principal. This was followed by a mellifluous prayer song. The vice-principal Roopa Ashok Shetty welcomed the gathering.

The winners were honoured with medals and certificates by the chief guest Sandra and the parents. In her address to the gathering, she congratulated all the winners and participants. She stated that active participation in sports is very much essential.

The students of grades V – VIII orchestrated resplendent Mass PT exercises demonstrating various formations and routines, showcasing their coordination and rhythm.

Overwhelmed by the success of the first annual sports day, the principal congratulated all the winners and wholeheartedly thanked the management, teachers and parents for their efforts into making the sports day a grand success.

Pallavi proposed the vote of thanks. By the lowering of the flag and the resonance of the national anthem, the sports day came to an end. It was indeed an unforgettable memory to be cherished for long in the history of Lords.
