Mangaluru: Skandanagar residents protest repeated road excavations with sarcastic banners

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Nov 14: A resident of Skandanagar, near Kaikamba, has put up sarcastic banners to protest the repeated excavation of the road and to demand repairs for the stretch between Kaikamba and Skandanagar.

The road has been frequently dug up for various purposes such as laying cables and water pipelines. However, after each excavation, the drainage systems are removed, and incomplete work has left residents frustrated. Despite numerous requests and memorandums to the concerned authorities, no action has been taken.

Residents have also criticized the local MLA for failing to visit the area to address their concerns, accusing politicians of only showing up during election time to seek votes.

To highlight the issue, the residents erected sarcastic banners. One banner, translated from Kannada, reads: "As a black magician informed us that there is treasure at the Kaikamba-Skandanagar stretch, the government decided to excavate the road to find it. Riders are advised to drive slowly." Another banner humorously states, "PWD officials are asleep; riders are advised to go slow."

The residents are demanding prompt action from both the concerned officials and elected representatives to repair the road. The repeated excavations have made the road narrow and hazardous, increasing the risk of accidents.

It isn't just there. It is happening quite often at Mangalore also. While we hope that this is not true, These kinds of repeated activity of this sort tempts us to think where this is some form of "Employment Exchange" done in order to sanction various contracts to various individuals who are supposedly in the good books of the ruling party in charge.

No use blaming elected MLA's, nor cribbing for development now. It's not like they were elected for development.

If the condition of the road is like this, innocent children, elderly people, and those traveling at night will face difficulties because the risk of accidents will be higher.
