Kadaba, Nov 15: The electricity meter box of a commercial complex owned by Koila gram panchayat caught fire late Wednesday night. Quick intervention by locals prevented further damage.
The complex houses four shops, including one selling highly inflammable paints. The meter box, installed on the exterior wall, began burning, causing smoke to fill the building. At around 3 am, passers-by noticed the smoke and alerted nearby residents and the shop owners.
Purushothama, a resident living next to the commercial building, along with shop owner Hamza and his brothers, rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire.
Mescom personnel, informed about the incident, promptly arrived and disconnected the electricity supply. The fire had started spreading inside one of the shops. Local resident Purushothama used a water pipe to control the blaze.
The building houses shops selling paint, plastic materials, and groceries. If the fire had not been contained in time, it could have destroyed all the shops. Arafa, the owner of the paint shop, expressed relief and gratitude, crediting local resident Purushothama's swift action for averting a major tragedy.
