Puttur, Nov 17: An elderly man from Salmara near Puttur died under suspicious circumstances after being taken for daily wage work as a mason’s assistant. Shockingly, his mortal remains were left in front of his house by those who had taken him for work earlier in the day. A police case has been filed.

The deceased, 70-year-old Shivappa, a resident of Keremoole in the Chikamudnoor village area, was taken for work on the morning of November 16. Later that evening, he was brought home in a pick-up truck in a lifeless condition by Henry Tauro, the mason who had hired him. Instead of taking Shivappa to the hospital, Henry brought the body directly to the family home, where it was left on the road in front of the house.

Shivappa had reportedly fallen ill while returning home after completing the day’s work on the outskirts of Puttur. The family and locals are now questioning the circumstances surrounding his death, particularly why he was not taken to the hospital when he fell sick.

Shashi Keremoole, Shivappa’s son-in-law, shared his concerns: “Henry brought Shivappa in a sleeping condition on the back of his pick-up truck and left the body near the connecting road to our house. When we asked him about it, Henry claimed that Shivappa was unwell, and that he had brought him home because he wasn’t dead at that time. This is a lie. We suspect foul play in Shivappa’s death and have filed a complaint at the city police station.”

The family’s allegations have led to an investigation by the local police. The body has been sent to the government hospital for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

The incident has sparked anger and suspicion among the locals, who are calling for a full investigation into the matter and justice for the deceased.
