Bharatpur, Dec 13 (IANS): Thirteen people arrested in connection with the violence in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district in September were remanded to two-day Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody by a court here Monday, an official said.

The CBI Sunday arrested the 13 accused - from Meo and Gujjar communities - on charges of inciting violence.

People from the Gujjar and Meo communities clashed in Gopalgarh town Sep 14 over a piece of land, with one group claiming that it was for a burial centre and the other insisting that it was for a pond.

The violence claimed 10 lives and left 21 people injured. The state government ordered a CBI probe into the incident.

The accused were presented in the CBI special court. "We were granted their custody for two days. They will be presented in court again Dec 14," CBI counsel Anil Sharma told IANS.

A team of Central Forensic Science Laboratory recently gathered evidence from Gopalgarh.

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi in October made a surprise visit to Bharatpur.

Gandhi, accompanied by union Minister of State for Home Affairs Jitendra Singh, met the families of some of the victims.

The Congress party's state unit, police and district administration officers were kept out of the loop and were completely unaware of Gandhi's visit.
