BJP to Propose Amendments in Lokpal Bill

New Delhi, Dec 13 (IANS): A day ahead of the all-party meeting to discuss the Lokpal bill, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday said it will propose amendments to the legislation prepared by the government.

After a meeting, leaders from the main opposition party said at all-party meeting Wednesday they will press for inclusion of the prime minister, lower bureaucracy and a Citizens' Charter in the Lokpal bill.

"Tomorrow (Wednesday) the government has called an all-party meeting on Lokpal bill. Our members have already given a dissent note before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Lokpal bill. We will press for that in tomorrow's meeting," BJP leader S.S. Ahluwalia told reporters after the party meeting.

"If they (the government) don't agree, then we will try and bring amendments to the Lokpal bill after consultation with other political parties," he said.

The meeting was attended by BJP leaders L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Ahluwalia.
