Bantwal, Dec 14: The ‘College Day’ of Carmel College and Carmel Convent Composite Pre-University College, Modankap, was held recently.

Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty was the chief guest on the occasion.
Public instructions department inspector G Ramachandra Gowda was the guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Shetty appreciated the work done by Christian institutions and specially by convent schools in the field of education in semi-urban and rural areas.  He had high praise for the manner in which the students are trained by such institutions for a better future.

He stressed the need for value-based education that will contribute to realize the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi of making India a ‘Rama Rajya’ and gave a clarion call to the parents to give higher education to their children and make them graduates and post graduates.

G Ramachandra  Gowda stressed the need for quality education in schools and colleges.  He said the present day students have access to electronic media which have the ultimate effect of making them good or bad.  He advised the students to restrict the use of electronic media and mobiles and watch those programmes which will bring a positive transition in their life.

Meritorious students were honoured on the same occasion. A tableau on the life and work of Mother Veronica, the founder of The Apostolic Carmel Congregation, was the main attraction of the day.
Local manager Sr M Gloria, Carmel High School correspondent Sr M Florinda, Carmel Convent Composite Pre-University College principal Sr M Ujvala, and parents-teachers association president Francis Saldanha were present on the dais.
