Bangalore: Illegal Mining Case - Hearing on Krishna's Plea on Dec 15

Bangalore, Dec 14 (IANS): The Karnataka High Court will Thursday hear External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna's plea to dismiss an illegal mining case against him.

Justice B.V. Pinto, who Wednesday took up Krishna's petition, adjourned the hearing to Thursday as the former chief minister's lawyer sought time.

Krishna filed the petition Dec 9 after police registered a first information report (FIR) over his alleged role in allowing illegal mining when he was Karnataka chief minister 1999-2004.

The FIR was registered on the direction of Lokayukta (ombudsman) court Judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao with whom Bangalore businessman T.J. Abraham filed a complaint against Krishna, two other former chief ministers and 11 serving and retired senior officials.

Krishna said in his petition that he had not committed "any illegality or irregularity" regarding mining when he was the chief minister.
