Udupi: SMVITM hosts mega blood donation camp, collects 110 units of blood

Udupi, Dec 2: The National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross Wing, Rotaract Club, and NCC Unit of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society Blood Bank, HDFC Bank Udupi, and Red Ribbon Club Udupi, organized a mega voluntary blood donation camp on December 3, from 9 am to 1 pm, at the college premises.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from students and faculty, who donated blood to the Red Cross unit in Kundapur. Approximately 110 units of blood were collected from around 150 donors.

The camp was inaugurated by Dr Jayakar Shetty, chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, who lit the ceremonial lamp and highlighted the significance of blood donation.

Speaking on the occasion, vice principal Dr Ganesh Aithal lauded the efforts of the participants and emphasized the importance of such initiatives. The event aimed to raise awareness about blood donation and inspire students and faculty to contribute to this noble cause.

Other dignitaries present included dean academics Dr Nagraj Bhat, placement officer Dr Manjunath, Kundapur Indian Red Cross Society office-bearers, HDFC Bank manager Raghavendra Rao, and NSS-YRC unit coordinator Sachin Prabhu.

The NSS-YRC unit of SMVITM has consistently been at the forefront of organizing social and community service events. The success of the blood donation camp is a testament to their commitment to fostering social responsibility among students.

The unit plans to continue organizing such events to encourage greater participation in social and community service activities.
