Zardari Returns to Pakistan from Dubai


Islamabad, Dec 19 (IANS): Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in the port city of Karachi late Sunday night having spent two weeks in Dubai for medical treatment, the Geo News reported.

He will resume his political activities from today, the report added.

The president, who was accompanied by his daughter Asifa, arrived in a special plane that landed at PAF base Masror, the largest airbase of Pakistan Air Force (PAF). The plane landed two minutes late.

President Zardari's medical team has declared him completely fit, allowing him to resume his official duties.

Prior to his visit, security was already beefed up from airport to Bilawal House in anticipation of the president's arrival.

According to Bilawal House spokesman, the president is completely fit and would resume political activities from today and meet party leaders.

He would leave for Islamabad after spending some days in Karachi, the spokesman added.

Zardari will also address on the occasion of death anniversary of former prime minister and his wife Benazir Bhutto in Larkana city of Sindh province Dec 27.

There had been a lot of confusion over Zardari's health.

Initial reports had said that he had flown out of Pakistan over a heart ailment. While Pakistan Army doctors had declared him fit, a US based magazine said he had suffered a minor heart attack.

Later, some media reports said he had suffered a stroke that caused bleeding in the brain and facial paralysis. There were also rumours of a military coup.
