Kundapur, Dec 13: The Congress emerged victorious in the Gangolli gram panchayat elections, previously considered a BJP stronghold, during the polls held on December 10. The vote counting took place at the taluk office Mini Soudha.
Candidates supported by Congress and the SDPI won 19 out of the 33 seats in the panchayat. The BJP secured 12 seats, while two seats went to independent candidates.
In the five seats of the first ward, Gururaja, Rekha Kharvi, Sarojkrishna Poojary, Nagaraja Kharvi, and Nagaratna Sherugar emerged victorious. Winners of the second ward included Tabarais, Sharena, Aboobacker Nakuda, and Rajab. In the third ward, Deepa, Gopal Kharvi, Mamata Ganiga, and Shyamala Shedti claimed victory.
In the fourth ward, Mahesh, Ammu Mogerti, Shobha Krishna Billava, and Devendra Kharvi won. The fifth ward saw victories by Laxmi Poojary, Janni Kharvi, Ganesh Poojary, and Jayendra Kharvi. In the sixth ward, Manjula Devadiga, Maxim Albert Fernandes, and Momin Sameer Ahmed were the winners.
In the seventh ward, Surekha Kanoji, Srinath Kharvi, and Riyaz Ahmed secured seats, while Akkamma U Kumar, Ashwini Kharvi, Chandra Kharvi, and Rajendra won in the eighth ward.
