Mangalore: House in City Gutted – Loss about Two Lac Rupees

Mangalore, Dec  21: After a house in Mohini Compound on Jeppu-Kudupady Road in the city caught fire accidentally on Tuesday December 20, it suffered extensive damages. The tiled house in question, owned by a person named Nagaveni, is presently rented to Govindaraj.

Both Govindaraj and his wife were away on work, and the children had attended school. Smoke started emanating from the locked house on Tuesday afternoon. The neighbours thereupon, called up fire brigade. The fire brigade contingent which arrived on the spot, broke open the doors of the house, and doused the flames with the help of locals.

A refrigerator, television set, cot, and bed were reduced to ashes, while the roof and beams of the house were damaged due to fire. Electric short circuit is believed to have caused the fire.

Local corporator, Vijayalakshmi, village accountant of Jappinamogeru, Joy, and Congress leader, T K Sudhir, were among those who rushed the spot and got involved with rescue operations.
