Udupi, Dec 14: A highly impactful e-easte collection drive was organized by NSS-YRC Unit of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), Bantakal at college campus on November 23 to December 10, aiming to promote responsible e-waste disposal and environmental sustainability.
The drive witnessed an overwhelming response from faculty, staff and students, with over[amount 300 kilograms of electronic waste, including old mobile phones, laptops, chargers, and other gadgets, collected during the event. The e-waste will be handed over to certified recycling agencies for environmentally safe processing.
Dr Tirumaleshwar Bhat, principal inaugurated the drive and emphasized the importance of proper e-waste management in combating pollution and conserving natural resources. The event also featured awareness sessions on e-waste hazards, encouraging participants to adopt sustainable practices.
“E-waste poses a significant environmental threat if not managed correctly. This initiative aims to create awareness and provide a platform for responsible disposal,” said Sachin Prabhu K, NSS institutional coordinator.
The drive was supported by volunteers from NSS-YRC unit Satvik Bhat, Annapoorna, Vishrutha, Arjun and others who played a vital role in spreading the message and assisting with the collection. Participants expressed satisfaction at being part of a cause contributing to a greener future.
NSS-YRC unit thanked the community for their enthusiastic participation and announced plans for similar drives in the future.
