Mangalore, Dec 22: Two stalwarts, Dr Amrut Someshwar, and Dr Balipa Narayana Bhagawat, who have contributed immensely to the cause of Yakshagana art form, were felicitated on Tuesday December 20, at ‘Tejodiya’ programme organized by G T Foundation at Town Hall here. 

Dr Vaman Nandavar, recollecting the studies and researches made by Dr Amrut Someshwar singularly, noted that the celebrated scholar and litterateur had contributed 110 works to the world of literature. Hailing Someshwar for dedicating his entire life to the cause of literature, he termed the Someshwar’s life as ideal.

Critic and Yakshagana scholar, Dr M Prabhakar Joshi, speaking about Balipa Narayana Bhagawath, appreciated the later for his achievement of leaving an imprint of his own in the field of Yakshagana.

Both the stalwarts were felicitated by draping shawls around them, and handing over fruits, flowers, and cash rewards.

Thanking the organizers, Dr Someshwar said that hundreds of achievers have served the fields of Yakshagana and other art forms, and wished that more such novel progremmes will be held in the city.

On this occasion, singer, ‘Karnataka Kalashree’ P Rama, was also facilitated. Rewards were handed over to sportspersons winning medals in the Special Olympics held at Athens, Dhanya S Rao, Royston Pinto, Pramila Pinto, and Anil Mendonca. Anjali Chadda, Neha Srinivasan, Sanjana Mahesh and Shayama Ayyar were honoured for serving the cause of Bharatnatyam at USA. Donations made by G T Foundation to Navachetana High School, Neermarga, for building a room, and financial assistance for running computer classes extended to Roman Catharine Lobo School for the Blind, were also disbursed.
