Yoga Teacher Arrested for Misbehaving with Spanish Tourist

Ajmer, Dec 24 (IANS): A so-called yoga teacher in Rajasthan was arrested Friday on charges of misbehaving with a 25-year-old Spanish tourist on the pretext of teaching her Indian yoga, said police.

According to police, the incident took place in the state?s famous tourism destination Pushkar in Ajmer district, some 150 km from state capital Jaipur.

The accused, identified as Kamal Pandya, is a resident of Ajmer.

?The Spanish tourist, whose name is not being disclosed, had gone to Pandya?s Yoga centre Thursday,? said a police officer.

?She claims that while practising Yoga, she felt pain in her back. When she complained about it to the teacher, he took her into his office and assured her of treatment through massage,? the office added.

He said Pandya allegedly tried to molest her on the pretext of giving her a massage. She protested and ran outside.

She later approached the tourist help centre in the town. The centre officials referred the case to the police following which he was arrested.

?As the woman refused to file any legal case, we arrested him for disrupting peace. Further investigation is on,? said the official.

Earlier on Wednesday, the police had arrested a restaurant owner in Udaipur city on charges of attempting to rape a 34-year-old French tourist.

The woman had registered a first information report (FIR) with police Tuesday evening saying that she was having a stroll in the market when Singh invited her into his restaurant and offered drinks that were laced with some drugs. Thinking that the drugs were having an effect on the woman, Singh tried to rape her in his cabin. However, she pushed him away and rushed outside.
