Mangalore, Dec 24: Rashid, former vice president of Jumma Masjid and Sayyid Madani Dargah Committee in Ullal, has filed a police complaint with the policemen, alleging that four persons, Bellary Ashraf and Nazeem from Mukkacheri,  Moidin from Ullal Sundari Bagh, and Mansoor from Kaiko, had assaulted him inside the said Dargah on Friday December 23. Rashid, who was allegedly injured in the incident, has got himself admitted into a private hospital in Tokkottu.

Reportedly, differences arose while choosing the office bearers of Ullal Jumma Masjid and Sayyid Madani Dargah Committee. Policemen had to interfere to bring the situation under control.

U S Hamza had been chosen to Dargah Committee in the presence of Ullal Kazi and other important leaders from the region, last week. The leaders had met on Friday to choose other members of the committee. Rashid is said to have raised objections to the presence of Bellary Ashraf and four others, who had been given temporary memberships of the committee in the past, in the seating accommodation meant for permanent office bearers. Verbal frictions ensued between the two opposing groups, before the president pacified both the sides.

It is said that Rashid and another member were seated in seats meant for office bearers. During the meeting proceedings, Bellary Ashraf, it is said, started presenting the report. Rashid said that he was assaulted with a thing made of metal, when he raised objection against Ashraf’s move.

President of the committee, U S Hamza, in a complaint filed in Ullal police station, said that Abdul Rashid and his brother, Fairoz, had barged into his chamber, posed him life threat, and torn off the resolution. He also accused the two of snatching away mike during the meeting at the Dargah.  In a counter statement, Rashid said that he is prepared to swear in the Dargah to the affect that the complaint filed against him was false, and he had not torn the book of resolutions.

Manjunath Shetty, Ullal police inspector, and other police personnel, have beefed up security in the region. Investigation has been taken up.
