Kasargod: Arrested Bangladeshi citizen came to India to form sleeper cells, target Hindu leaders

Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (MS)

Kasargod, Dec 23: The investigation team has revealed that Bangladeshi citizen M D Shab Sheikh, arrested by the Assam Special Task Force from Padannakad in the district, was an active member of a sleeper cell associated with Al Qaeda.

Further inquiries have disclosed that Sheikh was an active member of Ansarullah, a terrorist organization based in Bangladesh. Investigators found that he intended to form sleeper cells in India to assassinate Hindu leaders.

Shab Sheikh, operating out of Kasargod since 2018, was apprehended on Wednesday. He is linked to several bomb blast cases in Assam and had arrived in Kasargod with a fake ID, posing as a construction labourer.

He had also opened a bank account at a nationalized bank using forged documents. Authorities are now investigating those who assisted him in his activities. Reports suggest that Sheikh was sent to India to initiate terrorist activities and establish sleeper cells.

Meanwhile, the Assam Task Force has arrested five individuals from Assam and two from West Bengal for suspected terrorist activities. Interrogations have revealed that they, too, were planning to target Hindu leaders.
