Mangaluru, Dec 23: The PG department of business administration (MBA) and the department of computer applications (MCA) jointly organized a session on ‘The POSH Act: awareness, prevention, and redressal mechanism’ for first-year MBA and MCA students on December 18.
Dr Devi Prabha Alva, associate professor of commerce and a certified POSH trainer, served as the resource speaker.
The key topics covered were as follows:
• Breaking the silence around sexual harassment.
• Understanding the POSH Act (2013).
• Historical background, including the Vishaka guidelines and the Bhanwari Devi and Nirbhaya cases.
• Roles and responsibilities of Internal and Local Complaints Committees.
• Compensation and penalties under the act.
• Fostering a safe and inclusive workplace.
The session emphasized the importance of awareness and proactive measures in preventing workplace harassment while ensuring gender equality and dignity. Faculty members from the MBA and MCA departments supported the programme. The session was interactive, engaging, and well-received by the participants, who appreciated the valuable insights provided.
Akshatha Shetty, assistant professor, department of MCA welcomed the attendees and introduced Dr Devi Prabha Alva to the audience. Athmika, a first-year MBA student, delivered the vote of thanks.
