Bengaluru, Dec 29: Over 10,000 cameras have been installed in Bengaluru to keep a watch over miscreants during New Year revelries and anyone caught misbehaving or flouting laws will be dealt with strictly, warned Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Sunday.

He was speaking to media persons at the Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium after the release of former Indian Cricket Team wicket keeper Syed Kirmani’s autobiography, “Stumped – Life Beyond the Twentytwo Yard.”

Former India Cricket Team Captain Kapil Dev and cricketers Brijesh Patel, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, V V S Lakshman and industrialist N R Narayana Murthy were among the dignitaries who attended the function.

Shivakumar, who is also Bengaluru Development Minister, appealed to the people, particularly youngsters to ensure that the fair name of the city is not spoilt due to their rowdy behaviour and said the offenders will be dealt with sternly. “You can take this an appeal or warning. But I am firm to ensure that the law and order situation is maintained,” he said.

The deputy chief minister said the State Government has declared seven-day mourning on account of the demise of former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh and all government programmes has been postponed.

“There is no restriction on private programmes and government does not want to interfere. People are free to privately celebrate New Year. Police have been told to maintain law and order situation and people have to abide by their directions and guidelines,” he said.
