Udupi, Dec 31: In a significant operation, the Udupi Police, under the leadership of Prabhu D T, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Udupi sub-division, and Ramachandra Nayak, inspector-in-charge of Udupi Town Police Station, arrested two individuals involved in the illegal trafficking of MDMA.
The arrests were made near the Kemthoor Railway Bridge in Korangrapadi village, Udupi taluk. The accused, Akbar Muhammad Byari (32) from Kote village, Katapadi, Kaup, and N M Muhammad Muqdum Ali (28) from Uchila Bada, Kaup, were apprehended while attempting to sell MDMA powder from a car.
During the operation, the police seized 69.127 grams of MDMA powder, six mobile phones, Rs 1,100 in cash, a car, a Lenovo laptop, and other valuable items. The total estimated value of the seized goods is Rs 20,11,900.
The operation team included sub-inspectors Puneeth Kumar B, Suresh K, Abdul Basheer, Hemant, Anand, and Shivakumar, along with personnel from the crime unit, such as Praveen Kumar, Praveen, Raghavendra, Mayappa, and Prashanth.
A case has been registered at the Udupi Town Police Station.
