New Delhi, Jan 9: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has projected that the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 will draw 40 crore devotees, potentially boosting the economy by up to Rs 2 lac crore. Speaking at the 'Divine Uttar Pradesh: The Must Visit Sacred Journey' conclave, organized by a leading media group, Adityanath praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision in promoting India's rich heritage.
Highlighting the economic impact of previous Maha Kumbh events, the Chief Minister noted that the 2019 Mela contributed Rs 1.2 lac crore to the state's economy. With an expected influx of 40 crore devotees this year, the 2025 Maha Kumbh is poised to generate a significant economic boost, potentially reaching Rs 2 lac crore.
Adityanath also highlighted the growing number of devotees visiting religious sites like Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi and Ayodhya. By September 2024, over 16 crore devotees had visited Kashi Vishwanath, and more than 13.55 crore had visited Ayodhya. The upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela, scheduled from January 13 to February 26, is anticipated to showcase India’s ancient cultural and spiritual heritage to the global stage, as stated in a press release.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the Maha Kumbh Mela symbolizes more than a religious gathering — it represents unity in both spirit and society. Describing it as the world’s largest temporary city, Adityanath projected that 50 lacs to one crore devotees will be accommodated at any given time during the Mela.
