Gaza, Jan 10: Israel's army confirmed Friday that the body of 23-year-old hostage Hamzah AlZayadni, who was taken captive during the Hamas-led militant assault on southern Israel 15 months ago, was recovered from Gaza this week. His father, Yosef AlZayadni, was also retrieved alongside him. While Yosef's body was quickly identified, Hamzah's remains underwent verification.
As Israel and Hamas edge closer to a ceasefire and the release of hostages, Palestinian families, and hostage relatives continue to urge international leaders for an end to the violence. Gaza’s Health Ministry reported Thursday that over 46,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 109,000 wounded in the ongoing conflict.
Israel's military claims to have killed over 17,000 militants, while holding Hamas responsible for civilian casualties due to its operations within residential areas. The war, which began on October 7, 2023, with a deadly attack that claimed 1,200 lives and resulted in the abduction of 250 people, continues with little resolution. It is believed that a third of the 100 hostages still held in Gaza have perished.
