Pathanamthitta, Jan 11: In a deeply disturbing case, Kerala Police have arrested six individuals and registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) based on allegations made by an 18-year-old Dalit girl from Pathanamthitta district. The girl, a district-level athlete, claims she was sexually abused by 62 individuals over a span of five years.
Pathanamthitta Superintendent of Police V.G. Vinod Kumar confirmed the arrests, stating, “Five suspects were apprehended in one case and a single accused in the other. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges will be filed as new evidence emerges. A deputy superintendent of police is heading the inquiry.”
The horrifying allegations came to light when volunteers from the Kerala Mahila Samakhya Society, during a routine visit, encountered the girl and learned about her ordeal. Acting swiftly, they alerted the district Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
Advocate N. Rajeev, the chairperson of the Pathanamthitta CWC, revealed that the case was brought to their attention approximately 15 days ago. “We urged the girl and her mother to meet the committee. She underwent counseling and eventually confided in a psychologist about the years of sexual abuse she suffered, starting at the age of 13,” he said.
This case has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious concerns about the safety and protection of vulnerable individuals in Kerala. Authorities have assured a thorough investigation to bring all perpetrators to justice.
