Panaji, Jan 12: Health minister Vishwajit Rane announced that discussions are underway to double the bed capacity of the Paediatric Neonatal Resource Centre (PNRC) at Goa Medical College (GMC) in Bambolim. The current capacity of 15 beds is set to be increased to 30 beds due to high demand for the facility, which provides free services.

The PNRC, one of the state's best, offers crucial early intervention and care for newborns, with private hospital alternatives costing lakhs. Minister Rane highlighted efforts to improve child healthcare services, saying, "We explored transformative steps to uplift child healthcare."

The meeting was attended by health secretary Arum Mishra, Dr Vaishali Joshi (head of paediatrics), GMC dean S M Bandekar, and other senior health officials.
