Mangaluru, Jan 14: The St Aloysius College Alumni Association (SACAA) celebrated its much-awaited Alumni Day on January 13 evening. The event drew more than 600 alumni, who reconnected with old classmates and friends to celebrate their shared legacy.
Addressing the gathering, Fr Melwin Pinto, rector of St Aloysius Institutions, outlined the college's ambitious Rs 150-cr expansion plan, which includes a state-of-the-art 1,500-seater auditorium and a modern indoor sports complex. “I am also proud to inform you that St. Aloysius is ranked among the top 60 universities in India, reflecting our commitment to excellence,” he said.
Fr Melwin Pinto was felicitated for achieving the prestigious deemed-to-be-university status for St Aloysius. Fr Praveen Martis, principal, was honoured for being adjudged the best principal among Jesuit colleges in India. Prof Edmund Frank was recognized for representing India at the World Union of Jesuit alumni as a special invitee in Tokyo, Japan, while Prof Alwyn D’Sa was honoured for being named the most innovative professor among Jesuit institutions in India by the Jesuit Alumni Association of India.
The programme began with a special invocation dance performed by Swathi Bhat and team and choreographed by Dinesh, a Kannada professor at the college. SACAA president Anil Kumar J highlighted the significance of Alumni Day. Sumith S Rao, convener and chairman of the event, welcomed the gathering and served as the master of ceremonies. Conrad Nazareth, SACAA secretary, delivered the vote of thanks.
The formal programme was followed by entertainment, including a Baila performance and a live band. Flona, a staff member of the college, conducted fun games. The evening concluded with dinner. SACAA Alumni Day 2025 was a resounding success, showcasing the enduring spirit and pride of the St Aloysius alumni community.
