Kundapur, Jan 15: A fishing boat named Sea Hunter, owned by Momin Najima of Gangolli, sank off the coast of Karwar, resulting in a reported loss of approximately Rs 70 lac.

The boat, operated by Tandel Yogesh Ramakrishna Harikanta along with seven crew members, departed Malpe Port at 10:30 PM on January 11, heading directly north for fishing. Around 11:45 PM on January 12, the boat reportedly struck an unknown object beneath the water near Karwar.

Following the impact, water began entering the storage area at the front of the boat. Despite efforts to pump out the water, the crew was unable to prevent the boat from sinking. Nearby boats arrived to assist, but the Sea Hunter fully submerged, resulting in the significant loss.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported. A case has been registered at the Karwar coastal police station, and investigations are ongoing.
