Mangaluru, Jan 16: 'Kannada Sambhrama' programme was held on January 15 at St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, under the auspices of Kannada department, Kannada sangha and Akaram sangha.
The Kannada lecturer of St Agnes Pre-University College, who participated as the chief guest, explained the importance of the history, art, literature, culture and language of Karnataka and said, "Kannada language has become rich due to the close contact of Sanskrit and English languages. Kannada is our breath, strength, life, everything. The language has given us the food for life. There is no room for the question of what is not in Kannada, everything is in Kannada. We should proudly say that I am a Kannadiga."
The principal of the college, Sister Dr M Venissa AC, who presided over the programme, spoke about the 'importance of Kannada language and language in daily use' and said, "Kannada language should be our pulse. Our role in preserving and developing Kannada culture is very important. Culture is an integral part of our lives. We should be the guardians of language and culture," she called.
Dr Shailaja K, head of the Kannada department, Dr Bastyam Pais, assistant professor, the secretary of the Kannada sangha Shifas were present in the programme. Dr Shailaja K welcomed the gathering, Brinda delivered the Kannada message, Sannidhi led the prayer, Bhumika expressed her vote of thanks while Deepthi B was the emcee of the programme.
Cultural programmes were held as part of the celebration of Kannada Sambraham. Welcome dance, Yakshagana presentation, group dance, group singing, and a short drama were presented during the programme.
