Mumbai, Jan 3 (PTI): The BSE benchmark Sensex rose by 191 points in early trade on Tuesday on buying by funds and retail investors, buoyed by a firming trend in Asian markets.
The 30-share index, which has gained 63 points on Monday, moved up further by 191.52 points, or 1.23 per cent, to 15,709.44 points with metals, banking and realty stocks leading the rally.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty index moved up by 55.80 points, or 1.20 per cent, to 4,692.55.
Brokers said buying by funds and retail investors amid a firming trend in Asian markets in line with overnight gains on the European markets, bolstered trading sentiment.
In Asia, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose by 1.85 per cent, while South Korea’s Kospi Indedx up by 2.1 per cent in the morning trade today. The stock market in Japan was closed.
