Chennai, Jan 24: Continuity emerged as the focal point of Chennaiyin FC head coach Owen Coyle’s pre-match press conference, as his side grapples with an ongoing injury crisis before their Indian Super League clash with FC Goa on Saturday.
Coyle stressed the importance of resilience and consistency in turning their fortunes around. "We go to Goa to try and win. We know their aspirations, but we also know ours. With a fully fit squad, we can compete with the best. It’s about continuity, consistency in selection, and capitalizing on our chances," he said.
The head coach highlighted the recent additions of experienced defender Pritam Kotal and promising midfielder Maheson Singh Tongbram to reinforce the squad. Praising Pritam’s leadership, Coyle said, "Pritam has been an outstanding player throughout his career. His presence brings much-needed stability to our defense."
Maheson, known for his performances with India’s youth teams, adds depth to the midfield. The team is also actively scouting for further reinforcements, although Coyle admitted the January transfer window presents challenges.
Pritam, who debuted in a clean-sheet performance against Mohun Bagan, expressed optimism: "I feel delighted to be here. The team has a great attitude, and we need to keep improving to face upcoming challenges."
On the injury front, Vignesh will miss the trip, while Ankit is fit to travel. Elsinho and Lukas Brambilla’s participation will depend on their recovery progress.
