Udupi, Jan 28: Dr T M A Pai Hospital is set to expand its medical offerings with the introduction of neurosurgery services, which will begin on January 30. The department will be led by Dr Raghavendra Nayak, a renowned professor and head of the department of neurosurgery at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal.

Neurosurgery services at Dr T M A Pai Hospital will include outpatient consultations every Thursday from 12 noon to 4 pm. Patients will be able to seek expert advice on a wide range of neurological conditions, including back and neck pain, leg pain, coccygeal pain, brain tumours, nerve compression, head injuries, and other related issues.

The newly launched department will also offer advanced surgical treatments such as endoscopic spine surgeries, intracranial clot evacuations, disc injections for back pain, and nerve compression release procedures (eg, carpal tunnel syndrome).

Dr Shashikiran Umakanth, the medical superintendent of Dr T M A Pai Hospital, expressed excitement about the new service, stating, "We are delighted to welcome Dr Raghavendra Nayak to our expert team. with over 15 years of experience in endoscopic spine surgeries, brain tumour excision through endoscopy, skull base surgeries, paediatric neurosurgery, vascular neurosurgery, and traumatic brain injury surgeries, his expertise will be invaluable.
